Maintaining the same framerate but halving the timestep would have the same effect without feeling like it's lagging. If you want to download the latest version of Downwell APK, then you must come to apkmody. My last technical concern is when the player gets damaged, the game seems to halve the framerate for the first couple hundred milliseconds to give the impression that time is slowed I don't care for this as it makes the game feel laggy (and failing to reset this value might be a cause of some of the framerate issues that other people have reported here). I know this is difficult to get right as too much vibration can cause the player's hands to go numb, but the lack of vibrations entirely is definitely a mark against the game. The player character animations perhaps aren't as snappy as other platformers (the character's acceleration curve is perhaps a bit too gentle), so seeing the character begin moving isn't really great feedback by itself short blips of vibration when the on-screen buttons are pressed would be amazing, as well as stronger vibrations for other events like stomping enemies, firing the gun boots and weaker vibrations when they're empty, etc. The UI design is near perfect, except for two glaring omissions: the lack of an option to turn off sound effects so I don't have to mute all (media) sound on my phone, and the lack of vibration feedback. It would help add a greater feeling of progress to the play-die-repeat cycle that the game is missing right now. I would love to have seen more stances, or permanent upgrades to lives/battery capacity, the option to start on later levels or pick one or more perks at the beginning, etc. ![]() I don't care that there's thirty different palettes I can unlock I prefer the default because it's easy on the eyes and the enemies contrast extremely well. On the repetitive note, I think the game somewhat fails as a roguelike given its extremely limited number of actually meaningful permanent unlocks. It doesn't hamper my enjoyment of the core gameplay too badly but it makes the game seem extremely repetitive when I'm constantly replaying the first few levels. It is quite addicting but I have trouble consistently getting past the first couple levels, at least during casual play when I've gotten rusty with the controls because I haven't touched the game for a while the difficulty just seems to scale a bit too quickly for me. I also have the Steam version but my library's so big that I often forget about it, and it's much better as a mobile time-killer than a game to dedicate several hours to at home. I've been playing the game casually on my phone off and on since I purchased it almost a year ago. ![]() I've been considering posting a review of this game on the Play Store but it doesn't suit the Play Store review format as it's mostly critiques that I want to give the developers (and anyone else interested) a chance to respond to.
